Enjoy!

What comes to your mind when you think about your RELATIONSHIP with God? I’m talking about Christians (Christ followers) not in terms of a religion, but as a relationship with God. I’m going to share with you a quote that my girlfriend shared with me.

Some of the biggest challenges in relationships come from the fact that most people enter a relationship in order to get something: they're trying to find someone who's going to make them feel good. In reality, the only way a relationship will last is if you see your relationship as a place that you go to give, and not a place that you go to take."
- Anthony Robbins

I know this quote was written for other purposes, but I’m going to use this to talk about a Christ follower’s relationship with God. Now I ask you again, what comes to your mind when you think about your relationship with God after reading this quote? Are you seeking after God in order to get something from him? For example, praying day and night for God to give you a really nice car for you to drive? Or for lots of money and an amazing career? Like it says in the quote, these relationships tend not to last very long. Chances are that if you begin to seek after God and seek after these things from him, and you don’t receive it, your relationship status on Facebook with God will be changing from “in a relationship” to “single” pretty quick.
“You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.” – James 4:3
So what are these right motives you ask? Well I believe that we as humans are all created to worship. Now the subject of our worship is the tricky part. And when I say worship, I’m talking about investing all your time, talents, efforts into something or someone. Maybe its money, maybe its athletics, school, maybe it’s that celebrity crush or a girlfriend or boyfriend, but maybe that subject is supposed to be God.
“Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who , being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the father.” Philippians 2: 5-11
So when you truly surrender your life to God (basically the choices you make in your life will be what God would want), you will slowly be transformed and your heart will be changed so much that you will desire God and your thoughts and prayers will be about God and for God.
Which leads me to the last part of the quote which says that you must see your relationship with God as a place to give. I mean God has already given to you, to everyone actually:
“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:12-13
“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us” 1 John 3:16a
God has given you a way, a path to spend eternal life with him. Examine your own relationship with God. Have you responded to what Christ has given you? I don’t say this because you are being forced to give back to Jesus, but if you earnestly say that you are in a relationship with God then naturally your response will be to give and to follow him. So the challenge is simple, to examine your relationship with God. Are you giving God your scraps off your dinner or are you presenting him with an epic bacon covered turkey?! Haha Well what I mean is are you willing to give God more time out of your life, more effort, and a humble and willing heart to serve him? If you’re reading this and don’t see yourself with this type of relationship, I challenge you to simply find out more about God through the Bible (and not just what other people say about it) and let your prayer be to ask God to reveal more of himself to you.
“We love because he first loved us” 1 John 4:19

livin' life

o man... I haven't blogged in ages.. maybe close to a year! Maybe its time to start it up again. Anyways while reading Forgotten God by Francis Chan, i've been challenged. First of all, is that as Christians, we should be living a life that is so radical and different from the rest of the World that other people can see the transformation of God within us. The challenge is Am I living that type of life? Do other people see me as someone who is transformed by God? And this isn't something that is easy to do! Its so easy to follow the ways of the world to live life that way everyone else is living life, such as getting frustrated at work, being bitter at the person who talked behind your back, etc. But instead live a radical life where you permeate the fruit of the spirit (not fruits! but all of them at the same time) love, peace, joy patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control (Galatians 5:22).

Next up is the challenge of moving away from inaction. According to James 4:17 if you know something as bad, but you do it anyways, it is a sin. As a christian, i've been learning lots the past couple of years and there have definitely been times where i've turned a blind eye to somethings in my life, so this will definitely be a challenge for me!

So my prayer requests are

1. Being able to put all my trust and faith in the Holy spirit to guide me to live my life in such a way that will show how God has changed my life and transformed me

2. To do what is right, no matter what other people will say or judge me by, by turning away from the sin of inaction.

Refiners Fire

At my retreat this weekend, the speaker said something that caught my attention. He said

“Christians look for transportation rather than transformation”

By this, he meant Christians want transportation into heaven rather than transforming themselves to become better people. Now when I say transformation, im not talking about listening to a sermon that completely change your life forever. Well im sure it may happen to some people, but for most, this will not happen. Im talking about changing your life little by little with God leading the way in order to become a better, happier and holier person. Im talking about tackling one sin at a time, with God’s help removing them from your daily lives. The very things that you know you don’t like about yourself, the qualities that keep getting you into trouble, keep you feeling depressed every night, keep you from living a joyful life.

With every step you take closer to God, every little change you make, over time; 3 months, a year, you will notice a big change in yourselves. I know I saw it in myself in just over a year. I saw it in the way I thought about the world, the way I treated people, the way I talked to people, etc. Although I still have a long way to go still!

But the point is, our time here on Earth isn’t just waiting to be transported to heaven. I remember either someone said, or it’s in the bible somewhere that Eternal life with God doesn’t begin when you get to heaven. It begins when you submit yourself to God and proclaim in your heart and mind that he is your savior, your king… your father

So the point here is that we’re not suppose to wait for heaven to start changing ourselves.. we re suppose to start NOW!.... like right after you finish reading this sentence now!!!

So start chipping away at those sins of yours, those character qualities that you possess that you know are bringing you down, it could be anger, a reluctance to forgive others, grudge holding, PRIDE…Laziness just to name a few that I could think of off the top of my head.

I will leave you with a cool analogy I heard at the retreat.

Person 1, lets say his name is Joe walks into a silversmith and observes the silversmith purifying a raw, dirty, impure silver ore.

The Silversmith builds a fire in the furnace and puts the ore into the furnace. And for a long time, all he does is put more wood into the furnace and waits and waits and waits and puts more wood into the furnace and waits and waits… eat, sleep, rinse and repeat (I know …it sounds just like a life of a student right?)

Joe says to the silversmith… how do you know when the ore is purified into silver?

The silversmith replies, when I can see a perfect reflection of myself in the silver.

Of course we will never be pure enough that God will see his reflection in us, but through persevering through trials, persevering through time, slowly refining ourselves and slowly removing our impurities and sins and becoming as pure as we can God can say that he’s proud of us for removing as many impurities while living in this sinful, impure world.

So be encouraged and go do the things that God has asked us to do … not to earn your way into heaven because Grace is a gift, not something that we need to or can earn.. it’s just given to us in a box wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper with a bowtie on it and all we need to do is receive and accept it,…. but we do these things because we want to say to God on that final day… I truly did try my best to transform into someone who you could be proud of and remove as many impurities as I could!

And for all of you asking how can we be expected to complete such a difficult task? No big.. just go out and be AWESOME haha!

When laziness takes over

laziness is a HUGE thing EVERYONE goes through, especially me. When im lazy, im reallly really reallly lazy. Like right now i work, i have nothing to do, well i had nothing to do for the past week, which is an extreme shift from the busy life i had for the past two months. But anywho, ive become lazy, which has shifted me from high energy mode to a tired, sleepy and complacent mode. The question is, how do we motivate ourself to do things? How do we overcome procrastination to get things done?

For me, Im still looking for answers to this, but this is what i have right now and they are three verses from the bible. For me, because ive been through so much with God, and watching sermons which logically proved that the bible is indeed a collection of reliable historical documents, why not turn to the bible to seek out answers

i remember from a sermon where john piper said "the bible is so thick because we have so many needs"

So my need right now, is to overcome procrastination

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God"

1 Cor 10:31 NIV

"Whatever you do,work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men"

Col 3:23 NIV

In context, this its talking about how slaves should obey their masters and not just work hard when the master is watching. That can be applied to our own lives where sometimes we only do work when our supervisors, teachers, or parents are watching and the slack off right after they turn around to do other things. The challenge here is to Work as hard as you can as if you re working for God and not for other people. Of course if you dont believe in God you wont find this as motivation, but where im coming from is that how my life is playing out, there is so much evidence that God is truly working in my life that I cannot deny God's existence. And through coming to know God through reading the bible and just living my life out, i cannot help but learn about how much God unconditionally loves and accepts me and this was the turning point. I know its sounds a little weird for some of you but if you wanna know more, ask me about it and i can explain it in more detail. But anyways because of this Love that God has shown me, i will do my best in anything i do as if i am working for the Lord and not man.

Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more.

1 thess 4:1 NASB

the key words that i like from this verse is EXCEL STILL MORE... no matter what we re doing and how we do it, there are always ways to get better at it. Take softball as an example. no matter how good you are, no matter how hard you hit, no matter how few errors you make (clearly not me, cause i make so many errors) there are always ways to get better and fine tuning yourself to make timely hits and smart defensive plays.

This is the same with Life. No matter how much we know the bible, no matter how good you are at your job, no matter how much good will you have, no matter how positive you are or if you have the fruit of the spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control (galatians 5) You can always get better and fine tune it. None of us are perfect, in fact we are far from it. Its just that we re very lucky to have such a loving God to give us a chance to be saved from this world of sin and brokenness.

Sooooo go and live out your lives remember that you can EXCEL STILL MORE and do it all for the Glory of God!

GO FORTH AND BE AWESOME!

o mann.. its been a month and a bit since i wrote my last post!! I think i usually post about 2 blogs a month when i was in school, but i guess now the work/summer life has hit me pretty hard. So ive gotten involved in a lot of things this summer and as you can see from my lack of blogging, ive been pretty busy. Well mostly busy, but also part slacking on facebook, msn, gtalk, sportsnet, etc.. just wasting my time away when i should be doing my devotions (Devos), blogging, more time chilling with friends and stuff that is actually useful.

My life for the past month as really been something... im currently playing in 3 softball leagues, coaching in one of those three, part of the leadership for the fellowship at my church, lead worship on some sundays, work (a 9-5 job). Well because of the job, i dont really have much time to do a lot of things that i would like to accomplish in a day (not that im complaining about having a job!). But what has suffered is my devos, working out and sleep. Three very important things to me.

For my devos, its important for me to have my quiet time with God, read the bible a bit, and just pray and see what God has in store for me this summer

For my working out.. i feel very sluggish when i dont work out.. Maybe theres all this energy in my thats just stuck inside and it feels restless and just wants to get out. Also having at least 3 softball games doesnt help either since i need to rest from those games

Sleep.. O man.. a lack of sleep is terrible especially when you get up at 6 30am.. im sure you all know what i mean

But because of a lack in all three things, two weeks ago, i experienced a major burn out, which resulted in me, sleeping for 11 hrs on a monday followed by 9 hrs on a tuesday (after work). And man it wasnt pretty.. God really humbled me down this time, that I cant do everything on my own, that My body is weak.. that i need to go to God for strength

"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." - Isaiah 40: 29-31

Actually all three things devos, working out, and sleep are all vital parts of me, which are my spiritual, physical and mental well being. And because all three have been thrown out of wack, so was I.

So what did I do? I just prayed, prayed for forgiveness, for healing, for wisdom and for people to pray for me in my search to find a balance in these three things cause i know God wants me to be healthy in order to fulfill what he has planned for me this summer.

After that burn out, i am still struggling to keep all three in check, but i know with God's strength and prayer from friends i am definitely getting better at it, even though more things are being thrown at me left, right and centre!

So my challenge to you is to ask yourself.. are you sacrificing something important for things that dont really matter? are you giving excuses of being too busy to do the things you really want to do and the things you know you should do? If yes, get off your butt and go do them NOW!!!!!!.. kkthanxbye!

PS I want to leave you all with something really encouraging that my friend sent me:

This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important, because are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind. Let it be something good. ( A NEW DAY, Dr. Heartsill Wilson)

So use your day for something Good and leave behind something that you will remember as important and never waste any day of your precious life! Like i wrote on an encouragement card that my softball team is handing out... GO FORTH AND BE AWESOME!

Gotta pull them weeds out!

So, im done exams, and im back in Markham! and waiting for my marks to come out to confirm that i can graduate with my Bachelors of Science! YAY! i guess... except now im pulling out dandelions on my 2 weeks off before i start working!! I pull out ALL the dandelions in my yard.. and then guess what? the next day... theres like 30 more!!!!... I pull those out.. and then more and more... I think ive pulled out at least 200 dandelions in a span of 2 days (about 2 hrs per day)

I know while reading this you sense frustration and maybe a little bit of anger on how weeds like dandelions exists!!!

For those of you who have been following my blogs... i wouldn't have written this frustrating circumstance for no reason!

So here it goes:

"The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away. When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared. The owner's servants came to him and said, Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeks come from? An enemy did this, he replied. The servants asked him, Do you want us to go and pull them up? No he answered, because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned: then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn."

Matthew 13: 24-30

This passage is a metaphor where wheat are Christians who have that intimate relationship with God and are really desire to walk through the Gates of heaven and the weeds are those who don't believe in God at all and don't care about heaven or God.

In the end the wheat will be harvested and brought into the barn (heaven) while the weeds are bundled and burned.

Ive been challenged by my housemates to write a letter to myself, well the ME in 10 years.. when im lets say 32. Where would i be in life, what career, family? Kids? What would i expect to be doing, what would i expect to have? ( to my housemates: I will get to this letter.. maybe tomorrow)

Anyways my question for you all is Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Do you expect to be bearing good fruit like growing wheat (Matt 7: 15-20) through mentoring the youth, leading cell groups, making disciples of all nations, loving others, loving God, etc Or are you going to bear bad fruit like the weeds that everyone wants to get rid of on their lawns by turning away from God, living in negativity, induce suffering upon others, doing things that hurt yourself or others, and a big one, Hating on others.

Are you going to be like wheat and be taken to God's barn or are you going into a direction where you will be weeded out and tied into a bundle and burned?

Think about it, write it down and read it in 10 years hopefully you will have lived life to the fullest and in joy and peace and then you can smile at the letter and believe you re living life in the right direction.

I mean i dont expect myself to fulfill all the things that i will have expected myself to do in 10 years, but i will probably be reminded of what i still need to do when i read that letter.

Remember, its better late than never, I'm going to be bold and say that it is possible to become wheat after growing as a weed for a long time... All you have to do is .....

"ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be open."

Matthew 7 : 7-8

AND PRAY!

peace out!

A present? But its not even my birthday!

So today was Good Friday and its good to remind yourself on why its called Good Friday. This post is mostly inspired by Pastor Ken Taylor from Creekside church in waterloo by the way.

Its funny how its called good Friday since Jesus went through so much pain and suffering before getting nailed to the cross.

Good Friday and Easter Monday (Should be Monday since Monday is 3 days after Friday and not Easter Sunday, which is the day of the resurrection which confirmed that Jesus is the real deal and not just some other dude!) are days where we remember that Jesus died for us in order for God to forgive us of our Sins.

Lets look at the concept of Forgiveness. Forgiveness is what happens when you say its ok for another person who has done wrong to you. For example, if person A gets punched in the face by person B and person A say its ok don't worry about it... It can be said that person A has forgiven person B. In order for Person A to forgive person B, Person A had to absorb something... and in this case, it was pain, some suffering.. maybe a bruised jaw and hopefully not.. some missing teeth? haha

The point is, for forgiveness to work, one must absorb something negative.. such as the pain Person A probably experienced.

So in order for God to forgive us of our sins, He has to absorb something. Jesus, who is God in human form according to the Holy trinity where God, Jesus and the holy spirit are one and the same absorbed some HUGE blows as Jesus was first tortured, then he had to carry that huge cross up a mountain (imagine doing squats with barbells except holding that form and carrying that up a hill! That cross was probably way heavier that whatever i can squat!) Then he was nailed to the cross where he was left hanging with nails at his wrists. You've seen Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ.. it wasn't pretty..

So God took this blow in order to forgive us and the act of Jesus being crucified is our sacrifice, our ransom and our substitute.

Although we have sinned so much against God and have turned away from God time and time again He still did this for us.. to save us from our sins. He was our sacrifice as in the past the Israelites would sacrifice doves for God. He was our Ransom.. because we are being held captive in this sinful world, but his ransom set us free. He was our substitute because WE were the ones that were suppose to go through all that. We were the ones who was suppose to experience all that pain and suffering, but because Jesus was substituted in our place WE dont have to go through that.

Why did God do this for us? Because of the Gift of Grace (God's unconditional kindness) Because he loves us THAT much

"I urge then first of all that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is a good and pleases God our Saviour who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth." 1 Timothy 2: 1-4

And that is the basis of Christianity... Love.. " and now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love" 1 Corinthians 13:13

Now that we ve been shown this Love by God... its up to us whether or not we choose to accept this Love, this grace... Kind of like someone giving you a present, fully wrapped on a normal day (not even christmas or birthday presents just a normal day, everyday!) We can choose to accept it and open the gift to look at its Goodness or we can just turn it down. Same thing with God's love and grace.. its freely given to us, we can either choose to accept it or we can turn it down. And thats another way God showed love to us.. he made us into beings who have free will instead of creating a race of robots just accepting every command (I would rather be a being with free will than a terminator haha!)

So my question to you is... now that you know what good friday is about...do you want to accept that present? or are you going to turn it down?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://jayc1515.blogspot.com/2010/04/present-but-its-not-even-my-birthday.html' title='A present? When you go through trials and you feel stressed because of it, you feel abandoned, left to rot....
Heres a little story that i received through an email

A daughter is telling her Mother how everything is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the daughter says, 'Absolutely Mom, I love your cake.'
'Here, have some cooking oil,' her Mother offers.
'Yuck' says her daughter.
'How about a couple raw eggs?' 'Gross, Mom!'
'Would you like some flour then? Or maybe baking soda?'
'Mom, those are all yucky!'
To which the mother replies: 'Yes , all those things seem bad all by themselves. But when they are put together in the right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake! '
God works the same way. Many times we wonder why He would let us go through such bad and difficult times. But God knows that when He puts these things all in His order, they always work for good! We just have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all make something wonderful!

Believe it or not... all these things that are happening to you that you think is very negative, and horrible is all part of the smaller picture. God definitely has a bigger picture, a bigger purpose in store for you no matter how low things go.

" In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will." Ephesians 1:11

All God asks is for you to believe in him, to follow him, to obey his commands to 1) love God and 2)love your neighbour

"... i ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands." 2 john 5-6

And when i say that all God asks is for you to believe him, im not saying all you have to do is say ..."yup.. i think God exists" or "i go to church, that means God i know God exists" or "i know every single bible story so i know what Jesus did and I know God exists".

If you think about it, even the demons that were mentioned in the bible knew that God exists (James 2:19)

So what does knowing God mean? Knowing God means reading the bible, setting some time out of your busy life to do your devotions, follow God's commands.. love others like Jesus did and just KNOW GOD on an intimate level.. search for God, Taste and SEE that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8) Did I master all these things... by all means.. NO!..like i said in an earlier Blog.. im playing this game with unlimited levels and im like at level 10.. I still have a million mountains to climb!

Why am i telling you that Knowing God is important? Because if you don't know God.. you wont be able to see the bigger picture... you wont be able to see that all the negative things are small things that are trying to build you up to be ready for something on a bigger scale.. Dont believe me? even the bible says so

" The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the spirit of God for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them because they are spiritually discerned. " 1 Cor 2: 14

So this is an encouragement to all of you... don't sweat the low times..because in the end, God will use all those small yucky, tasteless ingredients and bake you up a HUGE, delicious Cake (which I wouldn't mind having a slice of a cake right now) .. also search for God as best as you can so you can understand why I enjoy writing these blogs... even if its 2 30 in the morning - You re gonna have to just trust me on this one.... i guarantee it will be worth it!

Why stop before we Begin?

Here I am in the middle of another busy week, writing this blog. So why am i writing it? Because God is Goood!! A lot of the past year has been a struggle with my career path. As a lot of you who know me, i was wait-listed for optometry school at the University of Waterloo. And when I found out, i was reading the book of James at the time and the first thing I saw was

consider it pure joy , my brothers whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you maybe mature and complete, not lacking anything.

James 1:2-4

And after talking to a friend, who didn't get into their school of choice, he said that his 4th year was actually very fulfilling as he did many things that he wouldn't have done if he did get into his post undergrad school.

So i began to think.. maybe God really wants me to do my 4th year and become complete, mature and not lacking anything... this was pretty much reaffirmed when off of the wait-list, 13 people got into the school of optometry at UW and the end of August, and guess what? I was number 14!

But all Said and done, this year i finally Got into Optometry! Praise the Lord! and once again i say that God is good. But i definitely believe that God put me through my 4th year to teach me, to mature me and to make me complete. But i will share that that stuff with my brothers and sisters at CCF during sharing night before i write a post on it (Mainly because i haven't processed anything yet! and also because i need something to share about during sharing night!). But i Do want to say thank you to those who have been praying for me and support me all this time!

So where do we go from here? I got in. What now? Just coast and do whatever until September starts up again? (Which im NOT going to do [for my mom's comfort]No worries.. im still competing with my roommate for marks haha)

Im going to use this part of my life as an analogy for something that ive been thinking about recently. That is, when Christians get baptized or come to accept Christ, we tend to believe that since we re saved, we re automatically saved and free from everything, that we just have to wait until we die and then God will just let us into Heaven?

I mean if it were that easy, why not just go into Heaven directly after we accept Christ? The fact is that we are on this Earth to be witnesses to others who do not yet know God. Also God gave us some jobs we must fulfill. The greatest commandment, Love God, love your neighbours and also the great commission: GO forth and make disciples of ALL nations.

The fact is that after we ve accepted Christ, the Journey is JUST beginning.

We still have to go and Live like Jesus, doing all we can to show people that you dont have to conform to the patterns of the world (Romans 12:2), but we can break free of any sort of expectation or stigma that society has put on us where if someone does something to you, one would usually retaliate or why do something if it doesn't benefit you?

In Ephesians 4:1-2 it says:

I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

Is it not harder to live a life of a Christian? To do the "Good" thing? To wake up extra early on a weekend day to go to church? To set aside time in a society that is always on the GO to read the bible and to devote some time to God. To have society's eyes on you, watching every step of the way pointing out every that isn't "Christian like". Doesn't it seem like you re walking through a pathway of knee deep snow where no one has shoveled and you re making the first footprints? Why am i encouraging you to take this path?

I am going to try to use a part of my own personal testimony as a source of encouragement.

Psalm 34:8 Taste and see that the Lord is Good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him

Just last year, i made the commitment to daily search for God and live my life the way God wanted me to live. And I can say that i've tasted and seen that God is Good. Everything that i've gone through, i've found joy, happiness and peace. I can say that in the past year, with God in my life, even when times weren't looking great, i was still able to find joy in my life through God.

What more can I say... its been just pure awesomeness! How can i not share this goodness with whoever i can share it with! And my journey is STILL not over yet!

Whats even better is that when you come to know how Good God is, you just keep wanting more... i would say its a GOOD addiction then!

Theres so much to learn about God. I like to compare it to a game with unlimited levels.. and no matter how long any one of us has lived, we re like at level 10 or some low number like that...

SO my encouragement to you is to not to stop searching for God, no matter how tough the journey it may seem! There is no level of seniority and there are no experts out there.. all there is, is people full of sin who are in need of healing and forgiveness, something God can only provide. There will never come a point where someone will experience all of God's goodness at any point of their lifetime so KEEP SEARCHING and good things will happen!

Take off that MASK!

When you talk to your friends, maybe even people you just met... usually you get the impression that they re normal people living out their normal lives, generally happy and generally enjoying their life whether it be school, work or retirement. Don't you find that when you re going through tough times, it seems like everyone around you is having the time of their lives or at least they are doing ok. Then you ask yourself, how come everyone is doing well except me?

Chances are that those very same people are going through their own struggles. Lets face it, who Doesn't go through their own struggles. Its like a daily, weekly, monthly thing, but either way.. we ALL face our own struggles. We are just really good at putting on masks. These masks make others think that you re doing fine in life and everything is going OK.

The funny thing is that even though We cannot see through these masks, God can. God can tell when you re sad, happy, depressed, Overjoyed... everything. He can see right through that mask, so why hide it? In fact the best way to go through a tough time is to talk it out. Have you ever experienced just talking about something with a friend and then you feel better about it after you've taken the weight off your shoulders?

So what if you don't have anyone to talk to, or you re too embarrassed to tell anyone about your struggles? Why not talk to God? A lot of people think prayer is this structured essay or speech you need to prepare before hand. I actually think that's funny.. imagine writing a speech for God haha. But no.. its not like that. In fact, The way I pray is as simple as a little conversation with God; just like how i would talk to any of my friends. Just carry out a normal conversation and share with God about your struggles.

"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer." Matthew 21: 22

For the skeptical people out there, if you do try praying... do you sincerely, earnestly.... FOR REALS! believe that God is ready and willing to help you through your struggles? And for those believers out there... when you pray...do you doubt? as in.. do you ever have second thoughts whether or not God will be there for you or not?

"But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double minded man, unstable in all he does." James 1: 6-8

DONT be that person who is double minded and is unstable in his/her faith. Strive to be one minded and stable. For example, if you were going to donate money, how would you feel about donating money to an organization who dont really know what they re going to use the money for? What if God was that person donating the money to you for your organization to help the needy and the poor, but you yourself arent committed to that and may use that money for your own purposes? How do you think God feels about double mindedness and unstableness!

Then when you pray, how many times should you ask God for what you desire or for what he desires for you without making it seem like you re doubting?

Of course i don't have the answer, but it is a good topic to reflect about!

If you really want to know how powerful prayer is, i have some really good stories... personal experiences that i can share with you.

Its been said that the people turn to God when they re most desperate. Because we have so many options in this developed country, we usually turn to other things like the internet, books, etc... but Where God is their only option... you actually see miracles at work in the developing countries.

Whether you want to believe that or not isn't up to me, but my challenge to you all is to just take some time...even 1 or 2 minutes every day,and have that little conversation with God with sincerity and without doubt. give it a try!

Here's a quote that inspired me during the sermon today from J.I Packer from the book Knowing God

"I can hide my heart and my past, and my future plans, from men, but i cannot hide anything from God. I can talk in a way that deceives my fellow-creatures as to what I really am, but nothing I say or do can deceive God... He knows me as I really am, better indeed than I know myself... Living becomes an awesome business when you realize that you spend every moment of your life in the sight and company of an omniscient, omnipresent Creator."

And another inspiring Quote.... "Live before an Audience of One" Meaning live like God is watching you. Do the things that God would want you to do.. a lot of people wear those What would Jesus do Bracelets... why just wear it? LIVE IT OUT! Do the little things that other people care about, opening doors for strangers, throwing things in the garabage instead of dumping it on the street, and just live a joyful life. I'm pretty sure it will make the world a better place one person at a time!

JUST GO DO IT!

Do you ever get that feeling where you feel like you need to do something, or you feel like God put something on your heart and he's tugging you to go do it. For example, maybe you re feeling you need to talk to this person if you see that they re going through a struggle or if God is really pushing you to go be a leader in lets say your fellowship or small group and mentor the younger kids. But then you stop and think... i don't know what will happen if i go talk to that person, or if i commit my time into mentoring or leading this fellowship. Or maybe you think that, that certain person or fellowship would reject you if you offered to help. So in the end, you just don't and that passion that you feel in your heart just sits there and eventually goes away.

In Hebrews 11: 13-16, it says:

"All these people (Abraham, Noah, Issac, Jacob, etc) were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country - a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them."

So in scripture, it says that these people were looking for a country. I am going to compare that to that passion or that thought that you think you really need to do that God has placed on your hearts. So these people were striving towards this new country, living righteous lives and looking towards God every step of the way. If they thought of returning to their old country, they would have had an opportunity to return.
So im going to compare returning to their old country with all the doubts that you think of not fulfilling that passion. Then you will give yourself the chance to NOT fulfill it. So why not just keep looking towards God to keep that passion alive and for encouragement and JUST DO IT

Soooo if that seemed confusing.. here it is... Instead of doubting yourself, its not whether you re adequate enough to do something, its whether or not God is sending you to do it. If God is sending you (by instilling in you that passion) pray about it and just do it. If you start doubting yourself or your ability, then chances are... you wont do it and for the things that you really wanted to see happen, it will not be done. And in the end you will still be unsatisfied with way things are because you did not take that step to fulfill that change.

This message also goes out to the procrastinators out there. If you need to do something, JUST DO IT. If you sit around, thinking later.. I'll do it later... chances are... you wont get to it, or you will be rushed to compete that assignment or even it will have missed the opportunity to go help your friend who is going through that struggle, or you end up missing a great opportunity to go help out at a soup kitchen or sandwich run where you may end up meeting someone who's pretty cool and has such a great story to tell you!

I know this blog is a little messy, but its kind of hard to explain in writing, i would rather say it in person for whoever is reading this blog, but this is my main message:

If you feel that passion in your heart, pray about it, trust in God.. and JUST GO DO IT!

Life after undergrad

So its the beginning of February, a month into my last term of my science undergrad. And i guess i havent written a blog since half a month ago, so why not write one on thinking about what happens after we graduate. So as many of you know, i am in the application process of applying for Optometry school at waterloo... yes, another 4 years at waterloo.. haha. But anyways I am in the waiting process after doing my interview back in November.

I have some friends who are also graduating. Some have found full time jobs, but those who are still looking and are applying for grad school don't have an answer yet and therefore dont know what they will be doing next year. So they re pretty much in the same position as I am. Ive talked to many of them and there is a fear of not getting into school for next year. As the term goes on, some of these people are getting anxious, nervous, sad, maybe even a little depressed. This is because We as human beings fear the unknown. And that is why we keep going out to search for answers (pretty much what sciences does but that could be for curiosity reasons) For example, that H1N1 Flu. People were getting sick and dying, so everyone around the world feared it. The reason they feared it was because they didnt know what to do about it. There was no vaccine, no cure, no knowing how badly it might affect you and ultimately it was something of the UNKNOWN.

Personally, how i feel about optometry is that I don't need to fear. I feel that God put me in my 4th year instead of letting me into optometry so that I can learn and mature and most of all, persevere (James 1) I was able to experience things that I never would have if I got into optometry. Also being the next one in line to get in off the wait list, i really believe that it was God telling me that, im making you go through your 4th year for a reason.
For these reasons, I have lifted my future up to God, whether I get into optometry or not, is up to him. But I have faith that whatever happens to me, it will be for good reasons and a greater purpose.

Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you. So we say with confidence, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Hebrews 13:5-6

And this is the reason I do not fear my future. Ive been through so much with God and ive been so greatly blessed. How can I not put my trust in God?

I do hope that who ever is reading this feels encouraged to pursue God. That this faith and grace we have received from God (Eph 2: 8-10) is really something special, that not everyone can see, that I pray that people will be able to see.
If you want to know more about what Ive been through drop me a message, i will gladly tell you my story!

O and i just set it so that anyone can comment on the blogs, so comment away!!

Its not what you put in your Jar of life, but what goes FIRST!

<meta equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; Not with school work... OK.... for the parents and family reading... i did do some reading ;) but there are also other things keeping me busy, like being on the worship team for CCF, leading a Discipleship group, ICE HOCKEY!!!! and just chilling with some friends just to catch up. For those who know me, i like to keep myself busy busy! That can be good or it can be bad. Good in the sense that I enjoy all these things and wouldnt give them up for the world! and bad in the sense that i can be so busy.. i wont have time for myself or for God, but anywho here's a little story (kinda long sorry... it makes my blog longer than it actually is)

"When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Coffees.
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full.
They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar.
He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls.
He then asked the students again if the jar was full.
They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He asked once more if the jar was full.
The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'
The professor then produced two coffees from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand.
The students laughed..
'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.
The sand is everything else---the small stuff.
'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.
The same goes for life.
If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.
Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Spend time with your children.
Spend time with your parents.
Visit with grandparents.
Take time to get medical checkups.
Take your spouse out to dinner.
Play another 18. (For those non sporty people.. this means 18 holes of Golf on a golf course)
There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.
Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand.
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Coffee represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.'
The Coffee just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Coffees with a friend.
LIFE ISN'T ABOUT WAITING FOR THE STORM TO PASS... ...IT'S LEARNING HOW
TO DANCE IN THE RAIN !"

Yup This story is about Prioritizing and just generally live out your life to the fullest and dont let the sad times keep you down. A lot of people complain that they re always so busy with no time to do anything and that they hate school or work because it takes up so much of their day... but they end up slacking off in between anyways!. I think i even heard one of my friends say that they dont like sleep cause it takes up most of the night haha ... personally i like my sleep, so for me its one of my golf balls! But people get so caught up with all the sand in their life that they dont have the time to put the golf balls first!

Its all priorities.. no matter what stage you are at in your life.. Whether you re in school, working or even retired, make sure you take care and treasure your golf balls because those are the things that make your life worth living!

And for those who are always like.. Jason... why do you always have time to go out and chill with your friends... those are the times i can fit in my coffees just to catch up or even just listen to a friend in need... no matter how busy your life is.. you can always fill the jar with a couple coffees before it really gets full!

Moral of the story... no matter how busy or busily miserable (yes i believe i just invented a word..) you are.. remember that you MUST learn to prioritize your golf balls first and that you will still have enough room to fit in a couple coffees no matter how many pebbles and sand you throw into your JAR! Only then can you have a, although full, awesome and amazing life! Think about it... you have so many years of your life left ahead of you... why waste it filling it up with sand?

You got your golf ball, pebbles and sand.... now MAKE YOUR MOVE!

And another year passes by

So 2009 has come and gone and now its 2010... Wait... 2010 already? haha it just feels like time flies by quicker the older you get. I swear it only sunk in that i had turned 21 a couple minutes after the countdown... probably because of exams or maybe im just that slow haha. Who knows.. but 2009 has been one of the best years i've ever had, from the good times and bad times, i feel like i've experienced and learned so much this year. Im not only talking about learning about things but to actually go and live life to the fullest and attempt to step out of my comfort zone

The highlight of 2009 will have to be the Winter and fall retreats with UWCCF... i think those were definitely life changers.. (you can ask me about them in person if you want, i like to tell stories)

Because of these retreats i think i have a totally new perspective on life and what my purpose is... well maybe for the near future, but generally i think i have a good idea what i can do, what i need to do, what i need to stay away from and just overall be joyful!

I mean, bad things happen to everyone at some point in their life, and even many times, but why dwell on those bad times? While you re complaining, being emo, being antisocial, etc, you can use that time to focus on the positives and enjoy life! especially when our time here on Earth is very limited... maybe way more limited than we sometimes thing. So why not go out and laugh, play, and just just be joyful?

I really need to thank all my friends and family for getting me through the tough times this year, and there was quite a bit of them. And also for celebrating the Good times with me. Its such a blessing to have such a great supportive group of friends and family around me and there are no words to explain how thankful i am of them

I also want to thank my 2 brothers in Christ, one my mentor and a good friend who has helped me grown so much spiritually through our discipleship group and also being in a leadership role for CCF, i don't think i would have become the person i am right now without their guidance and support. Thanks guys!

I want to thank all of the new friends i've met this year, listening to their stories, getting to know them, and just chilling... its been great meeting so many cool people this year!

And theres also my softball team... It was probably the most fun and chill season i've had with CCSA just cause of the how easy it was to coach these guys and girls. I think they've taught me so much more about myself as a coach than i taught them..... of course i taught them a lot of stuff about softball... you know what i mean

So how do i rate how 2009 went? even with the tough times i would still give it 11/10 just because there were so many more good times than bad ones. Not only that, but i feel like my spiritual walk has grown exponentially and ive done so many things that I never would have thought i would be doing just a year ago! (stepping out of the comfort Zone)

I guess now its 2010, i wonder what the future holds? But i just really want my spiritual growth to grow like it did in 09 because no matter how much i grow, i dont think i can know enough about God. I mean when you look at any type of relationship you have, you just keep learning new things about that person, only if you seek it. Its the same thing when developing your personal relationship with God... ONLY IF YOU SEEK IT... so im hoping to just keep seeking, constantly
Then theres optometry... still waiting on whether i get accepted or not... i'll most likely know early march-ish.. soo fingers crossed
I mean theres no way to know what to expect in the upcoming future
In a mans heart he determines his course, but the lord determines his steps... proverbs 16:9
I mean we can choose what we want to do and each choice has its own consequence, but sometimes we forget that with every step we take, God is there to help us through tough times and God is there to celebrate the good times, sooo hopefully i don't forget that along the way!

So Hopefully 2010 will be just as good or even better than 2009, but either way, I just have to focus on the positive things in life... and that will help carry me through the year. Thats pretty funny because today, the first day of 2010, i had dinner at my grandparents' house and we were looking through old photo albums of when i was 1 and 2, and in every picture i had a big smile on my face (there was a lot of them too cause im the first born on my moms side! yup im that special haha), so if you re wondering why i seem like a joyful guy, i guess i was just born like that.... a happy kid all grown up and ready to live out 2010.... PS... i was a pretty cute baby too!! HAHA

the Christmas spirit of Giving

So its the Christmas holidays and everyone is shopping, giving, serving and helping left right and centre. People like giving food to local charities, giving food to the poor and homeless and good stuff like that. Walking around Toronto, you can definitely see that stuff on Christmas eve.

The question is... have you really thought about why you give? What motivates you to help others who need it?

Is it because you want to do a good deed this Christmas? or you have extra change lying around the house that you can spare? Or are you required to give that 10% tithing at the end of the year? Or maybe its just the Christmas spirit pushing you to give to others.

For me, because i feel like ive been so blessed in my life, i cant help but want to give back. I mean, ive done nothing to deserve anything that I have and gone through, but yet, im here and im living out my life with all the things ive been blessed with. I remember a pastor saying that We are blessed to be blessed in this world. Which means that God has blessed us so greatly that we can in turn use this blessing and go out and bless others through our good works, through how we live our lives, through kindness and compassion.

There are many things we can give... not just material goods. We can take a couple hours out of our life give out hot chocolate to the homeless people, to have a coffee and chat with someone who could use someone to talk to, maybe even a little smile will make someone's day or a simple thank you.

I always like to say... and ive seen this in action.. that something small to you may be a huge blessing for another person... so the challenge here is to reflect on why do YOU give? Look deep down inside and think about why you actually give and not just say because it feels good to give... why does it feel good to give? I believe that in order to help ourselves grow, we need to constantly challenge ourselves and ask why and take some time out of our busy schedules to reflect. To reflect about our past, our experience, our "stories" and think about things like how we became a person who likes to give. And maybe after you read this blog... go out and do small good deed... even saying merry christmas or give an encouraging quote or your favourite passage to a friend (since christmas day is almost over ... its 9 30 pm) and see how it goes for you and if you re lucky, you'll see if it brightens up that person's day

the B-I-G 21!

Sooooooo how does it feel to be 21? some people may ask.... well right now.. im studying for my finals, so i dont think its going to sink in until after i finish my finals (dec 22nd)... let the countdown begin.

So far, even though my exams are taking up most of my life these days, turning 21 aint too bad. On saturday, me and my roomates featuring WAYNE YIPPERS went out for dinner at Oliver and Bonacini. Newly opened at conestoga mall. I had sesame salmon with a bunch of side stuff like green mango and some fried noodle things as you see in this picture.

Over all it was pretty good, a little on the pricey side, but once in a while or for special occasions, not too bad.....
Then my roomates got me an apple pie tart sort of thing as you see in this picture

Now this was really good.. haha and i like deserts a lot! I would definately recommend this one for people who want to eat there.

On the 14th.. i spent the day studyingg with the froshies featuring derek ma, tyler, Matt and rosanne. Good timess in that study room.... people leaving their laptops unlocked... lots of changing of statuses and commenting andd not studying... i actually got quite a bit done though haha. But yea.. jasmine brought in her cake for her bday and shared it with us. It was Marble slab cookie dough ice cream cake!! yumm.... Right before i left to go home to get caked (i knew it was coming.. after 3 years of hanging out with them) the froshies sang happy bday for me! THankkkssss FROSHIES.

And then i went home... opened the door.. and my roomatess sang happy bday for me.. i checked anna's hand to see if there was cake ready to cake me... and i didnt see anything... then i blew out my candles.. and then grace and karina caked me.... i was really surprisedd.. thennn anna full Cake slapped me haha.. good times.. as you can see in THIS picture...soo i technically got caked 3 times... except all at the same time.. and my face smelled like cake for the rest of the night haha.

Good times for sure... so even though i was stuck studying ... i had a pretty good 21st bday. Looking back... God has blessed me with soo much... i could list it all right here in this blog.. but then you readers would stop reading cause it would take days (ok...maybe im exaggerating just a bit)

But one thing i feel really blessed about is.. all the friends and brothers and sisters in christ that God has surrounded me with. All the support, all the things ive learned, all the things ive been through, whether good or bad... ive had a really good group of friends around me, so at this very moment i feel very very very X1000000000000000000000000000000 blessed for my friends and of course family.. i cant forget family... they raised me the way i am today... but i'll stop at that before i start listing a million things that im thankful for..

PS... did i tell you my roomates got me an IPOD... blessed FO SHOO
PPS... Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!

The hard part is reaching out

During the past 2 months, God has really put something in my heart. Especially at the 2009 fall retreat, the speaker asked... how many people did you tell about God in your lifetime? I thought about my grand total of 20 years of when i first started breathing and i looked down at my hand and lets just say i failed the test and im not even talking about Asian standards! I mean we were called to share the gospel with people and i dont think ive even done much in that department.

This brings in Evangelism to the picture. When people think of evangelism, people think of someone standing out on the busy streets of Toronto and just shouting out stuff about God. I guess it is one method, but like many other christians, im not brave enough to go out and do that. I dont think i'll be doing that anytime soon either, but there are other methods of evangelism and easier ones at that. Something as simple as sharing your testimony and experiences and praying for them or inviting a friend out to a fellowship or church event that he/she might be interested in, or even using youtube, to show a friend a video of a sermon that you find interesting or even funny. These are pretty simple things to do to get anyone thinking about who Jesus is and why do i put all my trust and faith in God.

Another method that a lot of Christians dont think about when it comes to evangelism is living a life comparable to that of Jesus. I know some skeptics might say that we are all sinners and we can never compare ourselves to Jesus, but why not try our best to? Isnt that what God wants us to do? Surely your friends, whether christian or non christian will see how you re living your life and they notice all the small things that you do. Some things i can think of are devoting some time to God through prayer or reading the bible, showing forgiveness, showing love and compassion for others, showing patience, joy, self control, gentleness, kindness (Galatians 5), listening to a friend who is in need of comfort and just in general, living a life where you are able to shine the goodness and joys of God onto the people around you. Im not saying that I perfectly carry out this type of life.. haha i dont think i would be human if i did, but what we can do is try our best to be like this.

In the best case scenario, if one of my friends were to see this and ask about God, i would surely tell him/her about how greatly ive been blessed by God even though i dont deserve it and why ive put all trust in God (life experiences). But how many people actually come up to you ask right?

From what i know of myself, i dont think im good at evangelism at all, but you have to start somewhere right?

Blogging

So this is the first time i've ever written a blog. It kinda seems like a place to vent out what you re thinking at this very moment or maybe something good that has happened and you just want to share with people. In any case, this is my first time writing one and hopefully people will take some time to read it!

So what made feel like blogging? Its actually a bunch of things. One is that i think of things in my head and then i forget it like 5 minutes later. But recently, i felt really encouraged to start figuring out my story. When i say story, I mean my life, my experiences and what made me who i am today. This is an idea taken from a speaker, Jeremy Tao. He said that God shows us our purpose in life through little clues hidden in our stories, our experiences, our DEFINING MOMENTS. As soon as i heard that, I looked back even just briefly in the last couple months and that concept just WOWed me. I mean I am who I am today by my experiences in the past and all the things that God has thrown my way. Whether good experiences, bad experiences, trials, life changing retreats, going to church, going to retreats, all these decisions ive made in my life and what Ive done with what I have learned is what makes me, me.

So i think i want to start blogging mainly because i want to start keeping a track of things that i go through or things that i am thinking about at this moment and in the future, I can look back and read these blogs and realize how much God has really done for me during my lifetime.

I felt challenged to start writing down my story from the very beginning when God opened my eyes, through all these past years ive felt so blessed. The only problem is, i like to keep myself busy by going out or just finding something random to do or watch a movie and I have a hard putting time away for God and even for myself, so i guess in a way this will help me not be somewhat lazy.... hopefully.

Its funny when i think about it, if you would ask me 2 years ago if I could see myself writing a blog, i would say no for sure. That also goes with a lot of things ive done in life, like leading a devotional group during a retreat, leading worship (as in the guy with the mic in the middle doing all the talking), becoming the frosh cell leader, being involved in a discipleship group (DG) or even starting my own DG. All these things, when I look back, I would not have done if I you were to ask me about it in the past couple years.. even in the past year. I ve changed so much since last year and i feel like ive grown so much even in the past 10 months. And all that growing happened because God threw all those experiences, stories, and DEFINING MOMENTS at me. Whether good or bad, Im glad God put me through these things and I see my life shaping up to be something pretty awesome, well to me anyways.

But the past is the past and what people really worry about is the future. Especially being a university student, I can tell you that first hand, its not fun not knowing what is going to happen in the near future career wise. I mean im fortunate to know what I want to do, but getting there and getting in is the struggle for me at this moment. Ive heard of the saying "Fear is because of the unknown". But this verse has been keeping me going since my second year of university when i was all jumbled up between med school, optometry school, nuclear medicine, research, chiropractic college, "In a man's heart, he chooses his course, but God determines his steps" (Proverbs 16:9). So whatever happens to me, whether i get in or not, its up to God. This doesnt mean that i just sit here and wait for God to give me an acceptance letter. It means that Im going to try my best to get into what I want (my course), but ultimately, whether or not the admissions person screws up my application (Almost happened... long story), whether or not my reference letter is sent-in in time before the deadline (another long story), whether or not the admissions people see me as a future optometrist, all these things, ive put in God's hands. Ive done my part and the rest is not in my hands and I am giving it up to God to choose the steps that I will hope to lead to the desires of my heart. For those who dont know, i am applying to optometry school and i have my interview this weekend. Wish me luck! I think i'll stop now before people say.. mann this blog is too long to read haha until next time!
